St. Louis Children’s Hospital Specialty Care Center

In June, the St. Louis Children’s Hospital Specialty Care Center opened in a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri.  This facility is one of the few in the nation which is focused solely on patients under the age of 21 and provides community-based care in a more accessible, convenient, and less intimidating environment.

Extensive research was conducted to determine how children interact with and perceive healthcare spaces and the center was designed based on those results.  There are themes of imagination and discovery.  The color palette, artwork, window walls, and environmental graphics offer opportunities for children to play, learn, socialize, and explore.

Healthcare Design Magazine has a photo tour and article on this new facility.  To view the photos and read all about it, click here.
