Interactive Wall Art For Young Patients

Intriguing and interactive wall art installations at Boston Children’s Hospital foster a sense of wonder, perfect for young patients potentially feeling nervous and afraid.

Every parent knows the redirection strategy. Redirection is a common strategy used by parents. Generally, you’ll distract your child with something safe, appropriate, and positive in order to redirect them away from something negative.

A Chance to Stop and Play

Here, these large interactive illustrations, accomplished by local artists offer a chance for young patients on their way to meet their doctor a chance to stop and play.

Healing Oasis for Youth

The floor-to-ceiling illustrations are just one part of an intricate healthcare design strategy meant to create a healing oasis for youth. The “ground-to-sky” themed interactive art installations are integrated throughout the clinical spaces. On top of that, vertical indoor and outdoor gardens are woven into the building to provide respite from the highly clinical environment.

Healthcare Design Team

The healthcare design team involved over 400 clinicians, support staff, family members, and patients across 30 user groups. The Architecture and Interior Design firm Shepley Bulfinch programmed and designed a cardboard city mock-up to simulate clinical rooms. They also created interactive 3-D virtual walkthroughs and collected feedback from all stakeholders on the design and function of the spaces.
