Designing Waiting Rooms for Ultimate Satisfaction

Waiting for a medical appointment or a loved one having a procedure is not generally anyone’s idea of a fun time.  However, medical facilities are starting to design their waiting rooms to bring more comfort and satisfaction to patients and their families in order to alleviate the stress of waiting.  Designers are getting away from the “institution” feel and focusing on aesthetics, furnishings, and technologies.

One of the ways they are doing this is by breaking up the large waiting room into smaller, cozier rooms.  One area might be used as a television space, another for reading and another for a children’s area.  By doing this, everyone can pass the time in a way they choose.

Another important aspect of the design is the aesthetics.  Having soft light from different sources and natural light from outside provides a soothing atmosphere.   The artwork in the room as well as the furniture chosen is very important for the overall feel of the room.

Healthcare Design Magazine has had a couple of articles on the importance of the waiting rooms for patient satisfaction.  To read these articles and view all of the photos, click here and  here.  Below are a few of the pictures offered.
