Art in Healing at Grinnell Regional Medical Center

We have posted many times about how important art is in healthcare spaces, especially when access to views to the outside and natural daylight is limited.  At the chemotherapy infusion treatment services in the Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell, Iowa, the only views offered to patients were that of the parking lot.

In order to make the space more comfortable and inviting for patients, the designers hired Artist Lee Emma Running to create a botanical art installation.  The installation featured an abundance of hydrangea flowers which would use the natural light coming in from the windows.  All told, there are more than 60 hand-cut pieces of PVC material and stencils for 30 windows and a 200-foot dimensional mural of painted flowers and hand-cut silhouettes for the hallway into the suite.
