Nemours Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children
Each September, Healthcare Design Magazine features a comprehensive compilation of architectural and interior design projects representing outstanding innovative design solutions in new or renovated healthcare environments around the world. Nemours Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware won an Award of Merit in the Showcase for its new inpatient pavilion project.
The building has a curved form made out of glass which brings daylight to the inside and brightens the interior. There are two buildings connected by a five-story atrium with skylights and a southeastern-facing glass wall that serves as a horizontal light-harvesting system. The facility has an extensive local art program displayed in recessed niches in the hallway, nurses stations and work areas which provides positive distractions to patients, visitors and staff.
