Camp Pendelton Hospital – Designed with the Soldiers in Mind

Our soldiers should have whatever it takes to get them well as quickly as possible…

In December, 2013, Camp Pendleton, a U.S. Marine Corps Base near San Diego, opened its new Evidence Based Design Hospital.  Over 70,000 active and retired military families are expected to use the facility which is designed to handle everything from emergencies to labor and deliveries.  They expect approximately 2,000 outpatient visits daily.

What makes it an Evidence Based Design?

The floors for the patients all have a nature theme:  earth, sun, ocean and sky.  There are 54 patient rooms which are mostly private.  However, there are a few patient rooms that are semi-private.  Carlos Gonzales, the leader of the design-build joint venture says “Anecdotal information from staff indicated that multiple marines injured in a single event heal faster and have better attitudes when they’re with their buddies.”  It’s great that they have figured this out.  Our soldiers should have whatever it takes to get them well as quickly as possible.
