Art and the Healthcare Experience Measured Results

When caring artists and compassionate healthcare organizations join forces, the results cannot just be felt, they can be measured.

The following charts portray information that was gathered from a study conducted at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center based in Atlantic County, NJ.

Soon after the data was collected, the leadership at AtlantiCare decided to furnish a new seven-story patient tower that housed over 900 artworks. They called it AtlantiCare’s Healing Arts Program.

In addition to creating a relaxing visual and auditory experience for patients and visitors, AtlantiCare’s healing arts program gives local artists an opportunity to share their unique talents and cultures. Over 500 exquisite art pieces from locals demonstrate that New Jersey is home to world-class healthcare and world-class artists.

Below is an example a beautiful art piece that now hangs in The Center for Childbirth and Emergency Department at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s Mainland Campus.  For more information on the AtlantiCare’s Healing Arts Program, including artist profiles, please visit their Healing Arts website.

It takes more than medicine to create a healthy community. Serene art pieces, calming colors, natural light and soothing sounds can soften the high-tech healthcare setting and support the healing process. Numerous studies also show that clinical outcomes can be enhanced by incorporating the healing arts in the clinical environment.
