Design Plays a Major Factor in Patient and Staff Satisfaction
A healthcare facility’s interior design plays a major factor in patient and staff satisfaction.
A recent study conducted by design firm Gresham, Smith, and Partners (GS&P), showed that by merely changing the orientation of a patient’s bed, customer satisfaction went up.
The results of the study showed that moving patient bed headwalls from being visible from the hallway to being obscured resulted in patients reporting less noise and increased privacy. It also showed that caregivers had to spend more time in patient rooms because the staff could no longer observe patients while walking by.
Creating a safe, comfortable healing environment for patients requires a delicate balance between design and quality of care. Interior designers that are experienced in healthcare design have plenty of data to strike the balance and create an efficient design that can improve patient and staff satisfaction.
