Pediatric Waiting Rooms – Ease Tension with Colorful, Kid-Sized Chairs and Furniture That Can Be Easily Cleaned
When designing a pediatric waiting room, the goal is to make kids feel comfortable. Familiarity is comforting to kids, especially when they are in a strange place. Using colorful, kid-sized waiting room chairs that can be easily cleaned is one way to bring familiarity, safety and comfort to the waiting room.
Standard lobby chairs do little to make children feel comfortable and confident. If you watch children who are waiting, you’ll likely notice that they are fidgety and climbing up and down the furniture. Besides using kid-sized chairs, providing them with something to do is the next step in easing their minds.
Give Them Something to Move and Climb On
If you walk into many waiting rooms, you will see a pile of toys and books. The problem with toys and books is their potential to spread germs. A safer alternative to toys is an ottoman. Using colorful ottomans similar to the ones shown here, gives kids something to do. The ottomans can be climbed on, moved around and most importantly, easily wiped down.
Cleanliness is a very important matter to consider when designing a pediatric waiting room. Keep in mind that any object in the waiting room will need to be disinfected daily. Choose furniture that can easily be wiped down with the appropriate cleaning solutions and avoid too many toys and books that can be overlooked when the custodial team does their nightly work.
